Ministry Update 2.0

ya, so we're making some major first steps to where I think we should get. We're I mean, my ministry here as High School Pastor. 4 or 5 years ago I started on this crazy journey in persute of what church was going to look like in the future. I'm starting to see some steps in that direction. So think of all the tid-bits that you've been storing away, as you read blogs and books, go to conferances and enter into discussions in the frame of mind. Tuesday while I have some serious gastro-intestinal distrubances due to some virus, I'm sitting at my HS assistant's sofa with my boss Chris, listening to him spew out off his mouth most of those tid-bits that I've picked up over that las few years.

The short of it: We're changing what we do and how we live as ministry. We decided to detach small groups from our Sunday night gathering. Freeing them to be many things. We're doing one "come" event a month. a distant cousin to what we do now. Involving many more people than me, my assistant, and jembe player. One service/mission/partner with the community event a month, most likely not on sunday. Freeing a sunday night for students and leaders. And two leader gatherings, which will Empower students and adults to "go." We're also adding in a mentoring wing to the ministry. That is very near my heart. I'm a small time asspireing spiritual director. I'm not telling you the names or many more details because we're doing a "Move That Bus" moment in a couple weeks. I don't think it's "there." I think it's the next right step toward wherever "there" really is.

Oh, BTW I didn't listen to any of your book recomendations for staff. We're reading The Shaping of Things to Come by Hirsch/Frost. I think Martoia recomended it at GA. As a student ministry staff we're currently reading Contemplative Youth Ministry by Mark Yaconelli. Talk about "shot to the heart". Great read!!!

let's hear it, how are things are shaping up for you guys? what are the next right steps for your ministry? What are some challenges or land mines? what can we do to help?
